With nothing but “fondness for the place”, Farrier will share stories of the last five years and discuss the types of jobs available in television news. “It will probably be more amusing than content driven, but yeah, just a little surreal look into a newsroom, and stories, through my eyes. Well, 4-eyes,” he said.

Farrier did not always have the media in his sights; he studied Health Science at Auckland University before leaving to pursue a career in journalism. After three years studying communications,  Farrier is now a household name in New Zealand, known for his quirky sign-off at the end of his Nightline segments. Farrier will share with his audience tips and secrets of the trade and he hopes his lecture will provide a realistic eye into what working in a New Zealand newsroom means. Now on the receiving end of the media himself, Farrier is considering talking about being in the public eye. “I wasn’t going to, but maybe I will. I was plastered all over the Herald last weekend, just because I’m in a relationship,” he said. He will be speaking on Monday, August 13 at 12-1pm in the Hub on Wintec’s city campus. “If you come, please don’t be scared to ask questions, boo, or hiss, or clap,” he said.

  • SPARK lectures are free to members of the public.
