Oh What A Night

The Frankie Valli tribute show reached the Genesis Theatre in Manukau on Sunday with waiting crowds ready to sing a long; and oh what a night it was.

Oh what a night it was. As the lights went down I don’t think anyone knew how entertaining the first song would be, unless you had seen one of the three earlier performances.

This musical tribute to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons (hot on the heels of the similarly themed The Jersey Boys) was truly a fantastic night. The direct-from-Las-Vegas, Oh What A Night was full of laughs, songs everyone could sing along to and anecdotes from the four-man cast about the history of the music.

The cast was made up of writer George Solomon, Chris Anderson, Thomas Bevan and Josh Woodie – all of who were able to lead as Frankie Valli throughout the performance.

However, a stand out on the night as Valli, was Thomas Bevan whose stage presence shone, especially when singing Candy Girl.

The more mature female audience members made George Solomon work for his money when he came out to sing Grease – yes, the theme tune to the hit musical. True to his part, Solomon ventured into the audience to hug the ladies and perform a quick lap dance.

Songs that stood out had to be the opening and closing Oh What A Night, Sherry, and Silence Is Golden – which was performed acapella.

The harmonisation was pitch perfect matching that of the real Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.

Predictably the audience demanded an encore and was treated to a medley of the songs sung that night.

The next show is in Napier on August 28 prior to a further five shows in Wanganui, Palmerston North, Wellington, Invercargill and Christchurch.
