Bieber fan’s song takes off

Hamilton woman Bernadette Grennell has struck a chord with a Youtube video that has been viewed more than 150,000 times.

A 20-year-old Hamilton woman says she had “Bieber fever” after the pop star’s manager retweeted her Youtube video.

Bernadette Grennell, also known as Bernie, made the video after Justin Bieber tweeted his fans to ask them to come up with a song showing how they thought his next single Boyfriend would sound.

Her clip, which shows her playing acoustic guitar and singing her version of Boyfriend has had more than 150,000 views on Youtube since she posted it on the 21st of March.

The former Wintec student said her cousin gave her the idea for the song.

“I just thought sweet things that a boyfriend should say to a girlfriend about how he might be feeling about her,” she said.

“I got told that the ‘Bieber Team’ is watching me and to keep up the good work. I noticed that whenever I have uploaded something else I get more views then I would have ever got before.”

Bernie has been singing professionally for four years and learnt the guitar basics from her dad. She was in an acoustic band called Forever Tomorrow and they are having one last gig together at Static on the 27th of October to say goodbye as Bernie is leaving to live in Ireland.

“Now that I’m moving I still want to get back on track with recording an EP of my original song and try get them on the radio somehow, and just kind of go from there, keep performing cause that’s what gets you known and advertise myself.”
