The Francis Douglas Memorial College crew of Bodie Butler and Mason Porteous have made it to the semifinals of the U16 boys double sculls.

The boys pushed through to the semis with a stellar performance, finishing their quarter final third with a time of 7:31:13.

After the race, their happiness was evident in the broad grins they wore.

Porteous summed up their feeling about the race, simply saying they were “bloody happy” with the result.

Coach Jason Williams shared the boys’ impression of their performance.

“They just clicked,” he said.

“That’s the best they’ve ever raced…their training is working.”

After being eliminated from the same event in the heat stages of the North Island Championships earlier in the month, it is apparent that the boys have found another gear  at the right time.

Butler and Porteous will now compete in tomorrow’s semifinals.
