Face painters at the Bunnings Fieldays site at F Street are used to dealing with butterflies and flower designs, but admit a request for a car was a greater challenge.

Raewynne Crozier and Rochelle Harris will take your child’s request for a butterfly or flower and make it a reality on their face.

With 30 to 40 kids a day, Crozier and Harris have to work fast.

“They just keep coming in,” Crozier said with a laugh.

Crozier comes from an art background and finds most things easy to paint.

Harris on the other hand got a request for a car, which left her stumped.

“I can’t draw a car,” she says. “Butterflies yes. Flowers yes. Cars no.”

The time taken for painting each face depends on the child.

“Most mothers hold them on their laps,” Crozier said.

And the children keep them entertained. Harris said one boy wanted a brand logo across his head to impress his father.

They use non-toxic paints, and no children have suffered allergic reactions.

“We know not to paint near the hair line,” Crozier said.

Not only do children leave with a colourful face, they are also given a free Bunnings hammer.
