AG-Tech Industries is in the process of rolling out their new quad bike crush protection device.

The Quad Guard, on show at the Fieldays Innovation Centre, is a cheaper and lighter version of their Lifeguard roll bar system that is designed to prevent a person from being crushed if a quad bike rolls over.

Customer service rep Weston Stewart said that the Quadguard is half the price and weighs about a third of their Lifeguard system.

β€œIt will be a single use item, so if you do have a roll over, it will need to be replaced.”

The benefits of having the flexible roll bar, which attaches to the back of the quad bike, is that it moulds around the rider and puts space between them and the quad bike.

This puts less weight on them and reduces the chances of being crushed while also raising the centre of gravity of the quad which makes it so it can be pushed off the victim without requiring excessive force.

Stewart says that the Quadguard is already making waves within the safety industry.

β€œACC and Work Safe are now supporting them. ACC has just brought out a rebate scheme where you get $180 back if you buy one from them.”

While not yet released onto the market, the existing Lifeguard system has been available for six years.

Testing is still ongoing, both through computer simulations and in the field tests.

Stewart says it is likely that the Quadguard will cost $600 and they are hopeful to have it on the market within the next month.
