A fur-ever friend

Denny is looking for his forever home! Could he be the perfect pet for you?

Denny the
rabbit has had a tough life – but thanks to the Hamilton SPCA, the two-year-old
is back to full health and waiting for a forever home.

The white lop
mix was the sole survivor of a group of bunnies discovered on Brymer Road, by
the Hamilton Zoo, last October.

He was
covered in more than 500 ticks and was suffering with eye and ear injuries.

SPCA employee
Jo Finlay, who is head of the cats and small animals, says she will be
delighted when the right owner arrives for Denny, even though he will be missed.

“He is very
smart, and very opinionated about his food”, she said.

The ideal
home for Denny would be one where there may be a female bunny for him to
befriend. Bunnies are a social species, but they tend to grow attached to just
one other bunny of the opposite gender. Denny has been desexed.

Denny needs
an owner who is attentive. Denny is back to full health, but his tough start to
life has left him partially blind – his eye injury developed into a cataract –
and he has part of one of his loppy ears removed.

“Rabbits need
a home where they can spend time both indoors and outdoors while supervised. He
needs lots of things to chew on, as their teeth constantly grow. Denny is
litter trained, and in general rabbits are clean animals”, Jo said.

“He is full of personality and would be the perfect pet for someone out there”.

There are
currently six rabbits looking for homes at the SPCA, and their dog and cat
departments are completely full.
