Ten Cambridge High students will attend Riding for the Disabled (RDA) classes for more than a year thanks to the work of four teenagers.

The school’s Head Girl, Anna Smith, Gemma Barham, Eliza Rothery and Anneliese O’Brien raised $4000 from a 12-hour swimathon in support of fellow students. It costs $100 per person for a term of lessons at RDA.

More than 50 people, including students and teachers, paid $5 to be part of the fundraiser – while Livingstone Building NZ donated $2000 and Lauriston Park retirement village gave $500. There was also crowdfunding through givealittle.

“When people knew that it was for our community and a cause for us, it would help us directly, they were so giving,” Anna Smith said.

One grateful parent wrote. “RDA has been a great confidence builder for our daughter. She can ride a horse, which is a skill not everyone has. She also enjoys hanging out with the amazing team of volunteers down at RDA.”
