American Idol winner Iam Tongi set to perform in Hamilton

American Idol season 21 winner Iam Tongi, is set to a play a one-off show at The Factory in Hamilton, on Friday the 6th of October, starting at 8pm.

Tongi who was born in Hawaii but has Tongan, Samoan and Irish descent, quickly rose to fame during his audition for the show, after he sang a cover of James Blunt’s single “Monsters”. The single, which makes people emotional by itself, was compounded by Tongi, after he revealed to the judges that his dad had recently passed away.

On the show during the audition, Tongi said “My dad was the one who got me into music, at a very young age, every time I sing, I can hear him in the background with me”.

Tongi adds to the massive acts to come to Hamilton this year, with Reece Mastin, HP Boyz and Netsky previously making an appearance. New Zealand Rock band Blindspott, are due to come to the venue on the 1st of December.

Tongi is only performing twice while in New Zealand, with the other performance happening at Auckland’s Eden Festival on the 7th of October.
