Thinking of having a walk or just having your time out of the city rush? Lake Hamilton offers both with its scenic and friendly environmental layout.
Nestle in the busy heart if Hamilton City, lies the calm body of water known as Lake Rotoroa.
Lake Rotoroa, or Hamilton Lake, holds visitors interests with never ending attraction creating a lot of memories to those who make time to visit.
Its central location and family friendly convenience, mean it is valued as a natural escape as it has a large playgrounds and relaxing views to enjoy.
With its continuous 3.8 km concrete footpaths around the perimeter, it is a well-known site with people exercising or families just having time with their pets.

Joggers circle the path regularly as families gather around watching flocks of different breeds of ducks swimming and enjoying their time at the lake.
It is one of Hamilton’s recreation sites as its location become prime choice for people nearby to have their time out.
Cheryl Voss, one of city residents is proud in the lake which provides her a scenic avenue to have fun unwinding the day’s stress or just having time with her family and her dog.

Voss fell in love with the lake’s natural beauty after moving from Auckland City seven years ago. With its scenery views and handy location, she visits the lake about twice a week. “I like the scenery, it’s pretty to take photos and it’s a good walk.” She said.

Voss said there are other benefits for visitors to the lake, “if you walk around daily, it’s great for your mental health! It’s special because since moving to Hamilton from Auckland with my son who is now 11, remember taking him to the kids’ playground, so we have a lot of memories here,” Voss said.
The Lake is also a home to water sports and clubs. In summer, small sailing boats and canoes are seen frequently seen splashing the lake as they row around the calm waters.
The Lake is popular for Waka Ama and Dragon boating and is also home to Yacht Club, which has been at the lake since 1938. The Yacht Club has members sailing a range of craft like Optimists, P class, Starlings, ILCAs and Zephyrs. It also hold a learn to sail programme and has racing on Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon during summer.

Like any other recreation sites in the city, Lake Rotora-Hamilton never disappoints as it brings calm to your mind just like its sleeping waters. Where life feels lighter, slower, just enough to remind you to pause and enjoy life.
