Vintage cars rally for Cancer Society
Waikato car clubs rallied together last weekend in support of the Waikato Cancer Society.
It’s the seventh time the club has held its Daffodil Day Rally for Cancer, timed to run on the annual NZ Vintage Car Club Day.
Local volunteers and vintage car enthusiasts set off from Matamata, Morrinsville, Te Awamutu, Hamilton, and Cambridge to navigate to the Waikato Vintage Car Club (VCC) grounds in Cambridge.
Waikato Veteran and VCC Daffodil coordinator Heather Boswell said the committee had been planning the event for three months and are pleased it successfully raised $9000 for the charity.
Boswell said participating cars all donated $20 with raffles and competitions during the day, including “two lucky numbers drawn per town for prizes, which have been sponsored by businesses.”
Boswell explained that the prizes were drawn based on “a specific-coloured dot number for their windscreen and same numbered dot on their run sheet for spot prizes.”
Public spectators who donated for the cause helped the club reach the $9000 raised this year, and were also given numbered dots for two electric bike raffles on offer,
Boswell has been busy in the lead up to the event, “I took on the coordinator role with the help of three others, and we start planning three months before, but had the help of our members on the day.”
The local Badminton club also assisted during the event with managing parking on the grounds.
