Board of hope for Nepali community
The Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) International student body has created a display board in support of the Nepali students and the people of Nepal following the devastating flash flood on August 26.
The board was put up at the Globe section in the Hub for students and staff to share messages of kindness or photos to show support for the Nepali students.
Forty-seven Nepali students are currently studying at the Campus in various respective programs.
The floods have caused significant loss of life and destruction, with families and communities across affected areas facing an extremely challenging situation. The latest reports have a total of 1252 confirmed dead with approximately 4,875 reported missing (Thursday, September 3) as search and rescue continues.
International students support advisor, Susi Lathan said “Our thoughts are with the Nepalese community in Wintec and across Hamilton. We are asking students and staff to show support for our Nepalese students and the local community after the devastating floods in Nepal.
It could be a few words, a message to the people of Nepal, or simply a message letting our Nepalese community know that we are thinking of them.’
Lathan said, “We will be sharing photos of this on our Facebook group too so students who are not on campus can see the support.”
We would also love to hear from our Nepalese students.
These photos will help us celebrate the people, places and communities that are important to you, she added.
