Business development manager Simon Nealie said that the promotions have been going well so far and people are getting really good bargains.

“It’s just a bit of fun. The idea is to draw people over to our site and people can get a lawn mower for cheaper than they normally would,” he said.

Mailers were sent out to everyone in the top of the North Island promoting the deal for people coming to Fieldays.

This is the third year Steelfort have auctioning,  with a no-reserve $1000 push mower for the first two days, and the prize ride-on mower today.

Yesterday’s push mower winner was Lief Tumai who was in a competitive bid to take out the mower at $755.

“I came here looking for mowers and there has been bugger all. I’m glad that this one is made in New Zealand and I got it for a lot cheaper. I was only supposed to go to $700 on this one, but it was so close I had to get it,” he said.

The Palmerston North company has been at Fieldays for “donkey’s years” selling  everything from garden equipment to power tools.

“We sell the Lawnmaster mower which is the only mower still made in New Zealand. It is a really good selling point, same with our new Sunriver solar heating system also designed and built here.”
