This is the off season for the Volcanic Air Safari pilots who are usually flying high above the Crater Lakes

District and the volcanic rift of Mt Tarawera giving scenic tours. Luckily for punters at Fieldays they are filling their time off giving five minute flights.

Back for the 12th year, Phill Barclay, the managing director, said that it was the people that kept bringing them back.
“You get to meet a lot of interesting characters up here that come from all over the place.”

The view must be good, as the site attracts more than 400 visitors in the four days that they are here.

Barclay says that nothing untoward has happened aboard one of the flights in the entire time they have been coming to Fieldays.

“Nothing too exciting has happened, no screamers, just a few classical facials.”

Flights cost $50 for an adult and $35 for children under 13. The Helipad can be found by Gate 7, near A Street.
