Rural bachelor competition heats up on Halloumi

They might be eligible bachelors, but how good are they in the kitchen?

It’s probably best 2013’s rural bachelors stick to the farm over the kitchen after their performance in heat three of the competition.

The eight bachelors had the task of making Halloumi cheese in the Kiwi’s Best Kitchen yesterday afternoon.

The end result wasn’t too bad but the mess left behind was.

Aussie bloke Sam Trethewey proved the messiest of the lot and admits he doesn’t cook a lot at home so it was a “bloody disaster.”

It took about 13minutes for the eight bachelors to cook the cheese, with the support of two experts.

“It was good fun but only having been shown once in the kitchen and then having to do it, the pressure was on. I would have liked to multi task a bit more,” he said.

Trethewey doesn’t see himself getting very far in the world of cheese making.

“Probably won’t make cheese again. I don’t have the tools, resources or knowledge required and am not into my cheese that much to be honest.”

“I live alone and who the hell cooks for themself? I only ever cook if I’ve got a lady coming over really.”

It takes a good lady to keep these boys in line this week.

Morgan Croasdale from Classic Hits has the role of commentating each heat and agrees they’re all top blokes.

“I’ve only known them a day but they’re all such good fun and have really got into it,” she said.

Day two will see the bachelors compete in more agricultural tasks and hopefully one day closer to finding themselves future wives.
