Lead electronics engineer Akshat Bisht is designing ultra-low-power agriculture sensors with his team at Auckland University.

The team was exhibiting their sensors in the Fieldays Innovation Centre.

The engineers aim to produce low power design sensors  to make batteries last longer, Akshat said.

They design hardware and the software for the sensors which can extend battery life to five years.

“Our backing system connects to the internet so you can have apps and websites where you can see the build,” Akshat said.

The sensors were useful around farm equipment and could be used on pumps, Akshat said.

“Farmers can come to us and as we have a good platform we can connect whatever they want, let’s say a pump,” he said.

He said the group had worked on the sensor design for 10 years and three companies had taken up the technology.
