De la Cruz, who grew up in Southern California and has lived in New Zealand since 2020, says the album draws on images and experiences from a spectrum of chapters from his own life.

“I wrote the album over a 10-year period and it has links to love, loss, spirits, seasons, shades of blue and the moon” he said. “It was painstakingly recorded and arranged over a 2-year period here in my Hamilton studio”.

De La Cruz regularly performs in Portland and Berkeley in the US and New Zealand.

The album features songs ‘I Love You Babe’, ‘All I Saw Was Blue’ and ‘Disguise’, with the latter being a meditative, psychedelic reverie, propelled along by a pitched sample of Big Boy Cleveland’s “Quill Blues”.

The event at Fossick starts at 7pm and, also features Kirikiriroa based band Halcyon Birds and multi-instrumentalist Nicolas Joseph.

De La Cruz will also perform in Auckland at the Auckland Subud Hall on the 11th, before heading off to perform in Wellington on the 25th at the Futuna Chapel.

Tickets for tonight’s performance are $10 and can be purchased at the door.
