A pop up pie shop fundraiser in Hood Street today saw “90-plus” council workers, tradies, and local commuters lining up for breakfast with a second crowd for the lunchtime spot.

It is the 6th year, Breeze Waikato breakfast duo, Stu and Camille, have partnered with Oxford Pies to raise funds for Kids in Need Waikato.

Camille says, “We managed to make $18,000 last year, so this year’s goal is to make a little bit more” by donating 50 cents from every pie to Kids in Need Waikato.

The founder of the charity, Linda Roil said the funds to go towards ‘care packages’ for children in need going into foster homes.

The pop-up on Hood Street was also part of Love the Centre’s month long hospitality initiative ‘Love Bites’.

Camille said the breakfast timeslot for the pop-up store was visited by “a swarm of 90 plus” council members, construction workers, and odd people on their way to work between  8:00 – 9:30am.

One pie goer Leon turned up for the second opening from 11:00am – 12:30pm.

“I came down after seeing the Waikato Times article this morning… and I wanted a pie for lunch.”

This year’s pies include a mince and double cheese pie, which was the ‘dream pie’ choice of The Breeze’s Stu, as well as a Beef, Bacon and Cheese upgrade to the humble sausage roll.

For those with a sweeter tooth, a Brownie Dessert Pie “Cake in a Can” featured layers of brownie, berries and cream
