Night at the Waikato Museum
Te Whare Taonga o Waikato Museum & Gallery is set to hold their monthly ‘Open Late at the Museum’ tonight with two new exhibits.
Open from 5:30 – 9:00pm, the Waikato Museum is open for free entry to their after-hours programmes and cash bar with nibbles for guests to enjoy as they roam through pieces of art and history.
Visitor Experience Manager Deborah Nudds says the experience is “good for people to come to after work or with their kids,” at a time they can’t usually make during the museum’s regular hours.
On display for this month’s late night includes two new exhibits; Art Bites and Bug Bits.
Following with Love the Centre’s ‘Love Bites’ hospitality initiative running through August in Hamilton, the museum has set tickets for ‘Art Bites’. The $25 entry will get you a glass of wine, a bite from Dot and Winnie’s cafe, and a curated tour of the museum’s food related items led by Curatorial Manager Anita Robertson.
‘Bug Bits’, presented by the American Museum of Natural History, is set to feature enlarged images of bugs and celebrate the colours, patterns and shapes of the natural world. The exhibit will also include a hands-on art workshop for guests to create their own bug-inspired collages and will be free to enjoy along with the rest of the museum.
Deborah hopes the open late will make people see the museum in a new way. She says, “unexpected things happen… and being at the museum after dark is special.”
