‘Good vibes’ on the turf for Bosman
Kian Bosman likes rugby and cricket, but this year he chose to play hockey for his school in the 7-a-side mixed competition at the Zespri AIMS Games.
The 13-year-old student from Ōmokoroa No. 1 School is enjoying his second year at the annual weeklong sporting tournament in Tauranga Moana.
The 22nd edition of the intermediate-age competition is currently underway with games held across Tauranga, Ōmokoroa, Mount Maunganui, Pāpāmoa and Te Puke. Almost 15,000 young athletes are competing and many thousands of visitors have travelled to the Bay of Plenty for the week’s events.
Kian chose to play hockey at AIMS because he plays in the school’s A team. He says this year’s AIMS Games feel even bigger and more exciting than last year.
“It’s improved for me, really improved,” Kian says. “It’s good vibes. Real good vibes.”
For Kian, the best part is not just playing sport. It is also spending time with friends, making memories, and meeting new people.
He says the big crowds and excited atmosphere make the tournament feel different from home.
“It hypes me up seeing all the people having fun and enjoying their time here,” he says. “People are coming from places like Auckland, and they are enjoying it too.”
Kian says he will remember the tournament for the games, the friendships, and the fun. “I’m making heaps of friends here,” he says.
Kian said he’s making a lot of friends at the AIMS.
